In the recent "world drug-free power-lifting championships" 15 year old Alex Hughes of WEST Derby School "Liverpool literally powered his way through, to win the gold medal at school boy level' in the 90 kilo class.
He made an astonishing seven personal best lifts and surpassed his previous total, lifting 22 and a half kilos more since his last national title in July.
The competition was held in Glasgow sports stadium and featured lifters from around the world covering over 20 nations, his total was 342 and a half kilos and his technique was flawless. Coached by his father Simon, he said, "Alex is so easy to train, you just ask him to do it and he does so impeccably. He is like a machine!!
Congratulations Alex From Mr Parkinson. A very Proud Pupil Progress leader. Your hard work and dedication has paid off and should be an inspiration to the other boys in West Derby.
